It’s been 18 years since bodybuilder turned professional wrestler, James Hellwig parted ways with the WWE.  A business relationship strained by lawsuits and contract disputes cost both Hellwig and the WWE many years of one of the greatest superstars of wrestling in his prime. Saturday, Hellwig and the WWE made amends as he was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame and signed a deal for him to become an ambassador of the sport. It was an emotional reunion and induction, as he even brought his 2 young daughters up on stage, telling them “I will always be your dad.” Two days later he made his first ambassador appearance on Monday Night Raw, and said to the fans, “Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something that’s larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized by the storytellers — by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him, and make the running the man did live forever. I am the Ultimate Warrior, you are the Ultimate Warrior fans and the spirit of the Ultimate Warrior will run forever.”

Twenty four hours later, the Intercontinental, and WWF Wrestlemania VI champion, fell one final time collapsing at his hotel in Arizona. James Hellwig, aka The Ultimate Warrior, died at the age of 54.  A legend to every boy who grew up in the 80’s and early 90’s, a father and husband, will be missed by all yet his spirit will live forever. Thankfully he was able to be embraced and appreciated one last time before his passing. He was able to feel the love of his fans and share his special moment of recognition with his family as he was inducted into the Hall of fame. Hopefully it let his daughters understand just how special their father was to so many people. Just as he had eerily foreshadowed a day prior, Warrior’s heart has beat its final beat, his lungs have breathed their final breath… And his spirit, the Warrior Spirit, will run forever in all of us. Rest in peace Warrior… Rest in peace.

  1. He wasn’t the best wrestler, but we all knew that. RIP!
