The next time the Seattle Sounders take the pitch their midfield might look a little different. The Sounders traded Fernandez to the Chicago Fire for allocation money. This was an interesting trade when I first read about it but once I thought it over it seems like a smart move. Don’t get me wrong Fernandez or AKA “Flaco” will be missed. He is present in the outside mid position like none other. He was strong with the ball and always aggressive. I feel he has been down with injuries the last two seasons and that eventually lead to the front office movement.
With Fernandez departure from the Sounders, it has opened up a designated player spot on the roster. The front office and Adrian didn’t wait long to sign 30-year-old Central Midfielder Christian Tiffert. I am very excited about this move by the Sounders. He brings a strong presence to the midfield, I think this is just the partner Alonso needs in the center of the field. He was a captain for his old team, so he knows what it takes to be a leader.
The Sounders are also in the late stages in signing a young left footed outside mid. The 22-year-old is Honduran Olympian Mario Martinez. He has good left foot, a good shot from distance and has great service into the box. I feel the sounders are doing what they need to do to really get an amazing midfield to fuel the offense and defense. Now if we can just get them to invest in a star center defender the world will be a wonderful place.
LET’S GO SOUNDERS! SOUNDER TILL I DIE!
